DIY Tallow Lip & Cheek Balm

Course: Skincare

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp tallow
  • 1 tsp beeswax (adjust for firmness)
  • ½-1 tsp beetroot powder (adjust to preference)
  • tsp mica powder (optional, pearl/rose gold/champagne)

Method

  1. In a small heat-safe bowl, combine the tallow and beeswax.
  2. Melt gently using a double boiler (or microwave in 10-15 second bursts, stirring in between) until fully liquefied.
  3. Stir in the beetroot powder, mixing thoroughly for even color distribution.
  4. Add the mica powder and blend well.
  5. Pour into a small tin, lip balm tube, or jar and let set at room temperature until firm (about 1-2 hours).

Notes

Natural rosy tint from beetroot powder. Works as natural blush and hydrating tinted lip balm. For softer glossier balm, reduce beeswax. For deeper color, use more beetroot powder. Adjust: 80g tallow, 25g beeswax, 1g arrowroot, ¼ tsp champagne mica, 1/8 white, 1/8 copper, 10 drops vanilla. If making lip and cheek add 2½ tsp beet and check color.
