Buttery Dinner Rolls
Ingredients
- ○ 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened
- ○ 1 ½ cups (300g) granulated sugar
- ○ 1 large egg
- ○ 1 large egg yolk
- ○ 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- ○ 2 ¼ cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- ○ ½ tsp baking soda
- ○ ½ tsp cream of tartar (key to that chewy texture)
- ○ ½ tsp kosher salt
- ○ Optional: 2 tsp cornstarch (for extra tenderness)
- ○ Optional: coarse sugar for rolling or sprinkling on top
Instructions
- ○ Cream Butter & Sugar:
- ○ In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar on medium-high speed for
- 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
- ○ Add Egg, Yolk & Vanilla:
- ○ Beat in the egg, then the yolk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
- ○ Dry Ingredients:
- ○ In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, salt, and
- optional cornstarch.
- ○ Add dry ingredients to wet and mix just until combined. Don’t overmix.
- ○ Chill:
- ○ For best results, chill dough for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours.
- ○ Dough will be sticky but firm enough to scoop once chilled.
- ○ Shape:
- ○ Scoop large balls (about 3.5–4 oz each, or ~¼ cup).
- ○ Place spaced out on parchment-lined baking sheets — 6 per tray max.
- ○ Bake:
- ○ Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 11–13 minutes.
- ○ Edges should be barely golden, centers will look slightly underbaked — that’s
- perfect.
- ○ Let cool on pan 5–7 minutes before moving.
- ○ Optional:
- ○ Sprinkle with coarse sugar while warm for sparkle and crunch.
